| Begun in 2002, WAHF's scholarship program is another step toward the organization fulfilling its mission. Three scholarships are awarded annually to students enrolled in an aviation program at one of Wisconsin's technical colleges. The Carl Guell Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of WAHF's founder. An Army Air Corps flight instructor during World War II, Guell returned home to Wisconsin where he shared his passion for aviation as a lifelong aviation educator. The $1000 award is made to a continuing student who meets the required academic standards and is active in both community and extracurricular activities. In 2005, WAHF member/supporter Jerome Thiessen, an aircraft builder and pilot, announced his plans for a second WAHF scholarship. The Thiessen Field Scholarship is in the amount of $500. This award may be made to students not meeting the minimum GPA criteria. In 2007, the family of longtime WAHF member/supporter Jerome Ripp approached the organization with a plan for a third WAHF scholarship. The $500 scholarship is awarded to a continuing student who meets the required academic standards and is active in both community and extracurricular activities. Scholarship applications are available at two locations: the financial aid office of those colleges with an aviation program and online at Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin (Community Foundation). Completed applications must be received by the Community Foundation on or before the stated due date. The scholarship recipients are recognized during the organization's annual awards banquet at the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh. Tax-deductible donations can be made at any time and in any amount. Secure online donations, using your credit card, may be made through the Community Foundation website. Checks payable to Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin may be mailed to either the Community Foundation at 500 First Street, Suite 2600, Wausau, WI 54403 or mailed to WAHF, 3980 Sharratt Drive, Oshkosh WI 54901. Use this form and note Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame in the memo portion of your check. |
